Saw them in Asheville, NC, a few years ago. They are excellent live and super-nice guys to boot.
The voice of Other Lives' lead singer Jesse Tabish may suggest the icy falsetto of Thom Yorke, but mercifully that about covers the Radiohead, if not the Bon Iver, comparisons. On last year's gorgeously spaced-out Tamer Animals, the Oklahoman band began to find its own orchestral voice in a grand tour of eroded emotional landscapes. The band refracts Morricone soundtrack strings, taps frost-bitten piano and glockenspiel, floats up airy harmonies, and coaxes out more rhythms sometimes as quick as Latin folk, sometimes dramatic as Spector pop than you'd expect from such dark, baroque, reverb-drenched chambers.
