Most young folks are convinced that the blues is dead and that soul and funk aren't far behind. Those licks, the thinking goes, are best relegated to dollar-record bins, tribute shows and nostalgic Boomer trips. Don't tell that to Black Joe Lewis, who's too young to be of the Greatest Generation. That doesn't stop him from thinking he owns those "bygone" grooves. When Lewis convinces you that he actually created them (which usually takes about three songs), you won't be the first person whom he's conned. But don't harbor ill will for Joe or his crack band, the Honeybears. They're not here to deceive; they're just here to party.
