Life used to be simple – find food, seek shelter, reproduce, repeat. While the same needs obviously remain, our modern Western existence is also riddled with shiny new 21st Century problems: namely anxiety, doubt and an overabundance of choices. Thomas Harris' experimental film, Sleeping Orchard Templars, explores the perpetual metamorphoses undergone in an angst-driven effort to advance our lives, eventually leading us into the big, terrifying unknown. Set to an ominous choir of gothic drone and filled with images of a leaf-covered protagonist fighting literal and abstract obstacles in a domestic wasteland, Templars confronts the viewer with fears, hopes and experiences of the profoundly relatable variety. The film arrives at the Isolation Room/Gallery Kit (5723 Dewey Avenue; www.isolationroom-gallerykit.com) tonight and will remain on display through Thursday, March 29, by appointment only.
