For all the famous writers who once called St. Louis home only to leave us in the dust -- T.S. Eliot and Jonathan Franzen, we’re looking in your direction -- Kate Chopin’s life both began and ended in the river city. Her most famous works, from “The Story of an Hour” to the still-required reading The Awakening, considered the gulf between adherence to society’s demands and the fidelity to one’s own spirit. To honor her contributions to literature and to celebrate her time living in the Central West End, the CWE Association will unveil a bust in her likeness in the neighborhood’s “Writer’s Corner,” on the northeast corner or McPherson and Euclid avenues. The event is free and open to the public, and a ticketed reception follows at Herbie’s Vintage 72 (405 North Euclid Avenue) at a cost of $45 for non-CWEA members.
