A contemporary genius in her own right, Temple Grandin is the inventor of the squeeze machine, an advocate for both the ethical treatment of animals and for the advancement of those with autism, and she can draw one hell of a blueprint. Interest in her work and life has grown somewhat exponentially in the past few years, particularly after she was portrayed by Claire Danes in an HBO biopic based on her life and work with animals. Her lectures are fascinating, not only for the peek into her movie-reel mind (Grandin only thinks in detailed images) but also for her no-nonsense, strident approach to problem solving. Grandin holds several degrees, but she's most known for her revolutionary work on animal husbandry and improving slaughterhouses after earning her Ph.D. in animal science. Grandin will discuss her life with autism at Lindenwood University's Bezemes Family Theater (2300 West Clay Street, St. Charles; 636-949-4823 or at 7 p.m. tonight. Admission is free.
