Wanda Kicks Your Worries to the Curb

Forget about curbing your enthusiasm, comedian Wanda Sykes is bringing her witty, whip-smart stand-up to town -- and that’s something to celebrate. In 1997, after years of performing live around Washington, D.C., Wanda found her groove as a writer on the Emmy Award-winning Chris Rock Show, and from there went on to become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable supporting actors. Sykes’ voice is equally distinctive -- her work on animated films like Rio is a testament to that -- but it’s her recurring role as herself on Larry David's post-Seinfeld HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm that will best clue audiences in on what to expect from a live performance: direct, no-holds-barred observational humor on everything from gay cruises to double mastectomies. Sykes will perform live at the Peabody Opera House (1400 Market Street; 314-499-7600) this Thursday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $36.50 to $72. For all the details, visit www.peabodyoperahouse.com.
