Eerie similarities to Jonathan Franzen’s The Twenty-Seventh City notwithstanding, the Webster Film Series presents a fascinating look at Kiran Bedi, India’s first female police officer. Bedi’s philosophy of taking preventative measures to hinder crime alongside her penchant for prison reform -- in short, her message of non-violence in one of the most violent parts of India -- earned the documentary telling her story the title In Ghandi’s Footsteps. After the film, Alternatives With Education presents two former inmates to speak about conditions right here in the United States and how they compare to conditions halfway around the world. The free program takes place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Webster University's Winifred Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7487).
