More About

With every succeeding generation of artists, new ideas and new formats emerge. Video art is nothing new, but the leading contemporary artists of Bulgaria make every installation, photograph and screen shot a directly engaging experience for the viewer. Webster University has collected several artists, including Borjana Ventzislavova, Kosta Tonev and Houben Tcherkelov, for Contemporary Icons, an exhibit featuring works that provoke one to challenge and question the traditional notions of nationality, global racism and what it truly means to be at home. Tonev's works always have a wink to them, which provides much-needed humor to the ideas presented, while Ventzislavova's photographs of individuals set in starkly contrasting backgrounds are stunning and moving. The Hunt Gallery (8342 Big Bend Boulevard; 314-968-7171, www.websterart.wordpress.com) opens the exhibition from 6 to 8 p.m., and the work will remain on display through Saturday, April 21. Admission is free; gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: March 23. Continues through April 21, 2012
