Annotating History

In Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War, (Annotated), Kara Walker overlays her signature silhouettes over reproductions from the 1866 Harper's book of the same name. Her contributions are the "annotations," confronting the existing images with questions about gender and race. Walkers' pieces will be on display at the Saint Louis Art Museum (Forest Park) from May 4 through August 26. Admission is free.
