More About

Oh, iris! Your fair-weather, oft-bearded beauty never ceases to amaze us. Your colors, my how they vary -- from violet and yellow, to azure and ivory, to pink and orange and everything in between -- and your perennial nature brings us joy year after year. That is, for the green thumbs among us. For those who need some tips from local experts and some encouragement from a roomful of consummately cultivated flowering beauties, check out the Greater St. Louis Iris Society Show. Held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Ridgway Visitor Center at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-5100 or www.mobot.org), this show offers a look at both new and old cultivars and gives you a chance to chat with those who grew them. Entrance is free with your paid garden admission ($3 to $8), so after you're entirely iris-inspired, you might as well take a stroll through the gardens and glean further insight into what your own outside space could be -- with a lot of love and a fair amount of know-how, of course.
