For some, going to the movies means eating popcorn and escaping from our trivial problems for two hours. In the warm glow of the big screen, sensitive-but-strong Ryan Goslings catch us mid-swoon, scantly clad women with huge breasts fight crime and the good guys always win. But the dark-chocolate Toblerone set prefers something a bit more challenging -- an immersing experience that lingers long after the credits roll. The Celluloid Couch film series explores complex films at length, following each screening with an explicative discussion led by a scholar. It continues this tradition with a screening of Darren Aronofsky's 2010 psychological thriller, Black Swan. It all takes place at Webster University's Winifred-Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7128) at 7:30 p.m. and is followed with a discussion led by Britt-Marie Schiller, PhD, dean of the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute and professor of philosophy at Webster. Admission to this special screening is only $4 to $6. For more information, visit www.webster.edu/filmseries.
