That jazz and blues music has strong roots in St. Louis is not just a point of pride -- it’s a point of fact. And while our most famous progeny (Miles, Joplin, et. al) found international acclaim, many lesser-known figures are still celebrated as game-changers and architects of the St. Louis sound. Saxophonist and bandleader Oliver Sain stands tall as a horn-playing hero who moved among jazz, blues, soul and funk bands fluidly. Sain died in 2003, but tonight UV Hayes and Roland Johnson pay tribute to his lasting legacy with A Tribute to Oliver Sain, part of the Missouri History Museum’s Twilight Tuesdays series. The free concert takes place on the museum’s front lawn (Lindell and DeBaliviere boulevards in Forest Park) and runs from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 314-746-4599 or visit www.mohistory.org.
