Beer, Bikes and Buds

As the dog days of summer inch closer into the minds of many St. Louisans, dreams of sultry evening bike rides and beer-soaked dance parties loom like a keg in the night. Have you ever considered combining the two? Taking form as equal parts obstacle course, city-wide scavenger bike ride and backyard party, New Belgium’s Urban Assault Ride has been creating a buzz-on-wheels since its inception in June of 2003. As the fourth stop on a ten-city tour, St. Louis riders are invited to assemble a two-person team and traverse the urban terrain. At 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, cyclists will meet at Langenberg Field in Forest Park and create their own routes to various checkpoints, completing oddball challenges as they race toward the finish line. Registration costs $30 to $60 and includes an Urban Assault shirt, admission to the after-party, free beer, bike swag from sponsors and more. If you're curious but intimidated by all this talk of "assault" and "competition," volunteer opportunities are available as well. For more information or to register, visit urbanassaultride.com/stlouis.
