The incomparable Circus Flora inherently fills the air-conditioned big top with magic every summer, what with its amazing animal acts and unbelievable human feats. But this year, the enchantment in Grand Center (3526 Washington Avenue; 314-289-1500) will increase exponentially when the troupe presents The Wizard, the tale of an amazing, back-flipping shortstop. (Just kidding.) None other than the original wizard himself, Merlin, stars in this summer's circus story, along with King Arthur, galloping horses, flying friends, tumbling children, a live band, a (totally non-scary) clown and more. Sure, you might not recall all of these characters from Arthurian legend, but when the magic of Merlin blends with that of our hometown world-class circus, anything is possible. The bewitching begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, with a peanut-free preview night and continues Tuesday through Sunday until June 24. Showtimes vary and include a shorter 10 a.m. Little Top Wednesday matinee to accommodate the smaller, squirmier circusgoers among us. Tickets cost $10 to $44 and can be purchased through www.circusflora.org.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: May 31. Continues through June 24, 2012
