PrideFest is more than a party lauding all things queer -- it's a statement, a massive group of LGBT folks and straight allies wearing loud clothes and using louder voices to ensure they won't be silenced. It's the epitome of "outness," a refusal to keep sexual orientation quietly hidden away in bedrooms and closets, because it shouldn't have to be. Of course, there is a parade full of glitter-soaked drag beauties, sassy slogans and a slew of rainbows stretching to the horizon. Musicians sing and strum their support while members of the community are presented with service awards. It's a bright, sparkly and joyful celebration of empowerment through self-acceptance. Join in the merry-making with a few thousand of your closest and most interesting friends at PrideFest St. Louis 2012 in Tower Grove Park this weekend. The party kicks off at noon on Saturday and continues through Sunday evening with nonstop performances from national and local bands, comedians, burlesque dancers, drag stars and even church choirs.
