More About

Among other things, Miami Beach can lay claim to the world's largest collection of Art Deco architecture that's still standing. Between 1923 and 1943, hundreds of hotels, diners and apartments were erected in the coastal resort city, and most are still standing. Art Deco's bold geometric forms and zigzags came to define modernism and glamor, and as the 1930s wore on, Deco became even more sensuous as it evolved into “Streamline Moderne,” with its use of curving forms, long lines and emphasis on all things horizontal. In the new exhibit Miami Centerfold, photographer Keith Mosier turned his focus to the city's Art Deco District, assembling a series of carefully considered black-and-white, silver gelatin photographs. The opening reception takes place this Saturday at the PHD Gallery (2300 Cherokee Street; 314-664-6644) from 7 to 10 p.m. A $10 donation to benefit Food Outreach will be collected at the door. Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: June 30. Continues through Aug. 11, 2012
