The Summer of '69

You can layer Instagram filters over iPhone photos until you get that vintage feel, but there's nothing like the real thing. Dennis Saffne, a photography instructor at Northern Michigan University and part time St. Louis resident, was a student at Meramec Community College in 1969. During his time there he captured exquisite moments of metro retro in black-and-white prints. Now forty-some years later, these faded images offer a creative glimpse into St. Louis in what was arguably (read: definitely) a more fashionable age. View Saffne's work when it opens this Friday, July 13, with a free reception from 6 to 10 p.m. SOHA Studio and Gallery hosts Dennis Saffne: Photography, Forest Park 1969 through July 26, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: July 13. Continues through July 26, 2012
