Girls Gone Wild

If this headline recalls images of late-night Comedy Central infomercials where steel drums and sleazy voice-overs accompany images of young women lifting their shirts for fifteen fleshy seconds of fame and a free trucker hat, you're not alone. But these wild women are using their bodies to create artistic expressions instead of facilitate objectification. Phantom St. Louis is proud to present Girls Gone Wild: Contemporary Women's Graffiti Exposed, the first national showcase of contemporary American women’s graffiti and street art in the Midwest. This groundbreaking exhibition will feature work by some of the world’s biggest female front-runners in graffiti, including New York-based AIKO and Indie 184, Texas’ Becca Midwood, LA’s Jules Muck and members of the West Coast collective Few and Far. This vivid exposition will be unleashed at Phantom St. Louis (1300 Washington Avenue) during a special opening-night preview on July 19 from 6 to 10 p.m. The work will remain on display through September 2. For more information, call 314-338-4220 or visit www.phantomstlouis.com.
