Stephen Sondheim is one of the most well-known artists in theater. With an Oscar, eight Tonys, some Grammys and a Pulitzer under his belt, it's safe to say he's also one of the most celebrated and beloved stage auteurs. So when he adapts the work of Ingmar Bergman, a master of his own medium, the results are destined to be extraordinary. A Little Night Music (based on Bergman's Smiles of a Summer Night) is an iconic musical set in nineteenth-century Sweden, following the trysts of several couples riddled with romance, drowned in passion and laced with elegance. Join St. Charles Community College's Center Stage Theatre for its premiere of A Little Night Music at the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Theatre (4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Peters) tonight at 7:30 p.m. Performances continue through July 29, and showtimes vary. Tickets are $6 to $8 (free for SCC students).
