The Dream of the '90s is Alive at Skatefest

Skateboarding was invented in the '40s, reinvented in the '70s and renewed in the '90s. The bedecked decks have become a symbol of counterculture, inspiring everything from fashion to video games to the X Games. So while the Roller Blade is still painfully under-utilized, skateboarding lives on and thrives. St. Charles County's Youth Activity Park (7801 Highway N, Dardenne Prairie) fosters this love for trick-fueled transportation Saturday, August 11, with its annual Skatefest. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the park will fill with skaters of all ages, competing in the Highest Ollie, Best Trick and Game of Sk8 contests. It costs $8 to participate, and the park will remain open until 10 p.m., after the festival. For more information, call 636-561-4964.
Sat., Aug. 11, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 2012
