More About

For decades, the “Is it art?” crowd has rallied against abstract art as a sham, a haven for the talentless and self-obsessed. Some voices have even called for an overhaul to art criticism, proposing that abstract painting should be reclassified as “decorative” in an effort to restore the act of painting to the glory it enjoyed during the Renaissance. This Thursday New York abstract painter John Zinsser is rolling into the Philip Slein Gallery (4735 McPherson Avenue) with his exhibit Zero Guilt, a series of duo-chromatic enamel and oil paintings that boast an out-of-the-tube color palette sure to entrance modern-art fans and raise the ire of the haters. True Confessions resembles an order of bright orange curly fries resting on a plate of primer, while Circle of Thoughts calls to mind an un-sugared funnel cake. The opening reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The work will be on display through October 27. For more details, visit www.philipsleingallery.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 6-8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 13. Continues through Oct. 27, 2012
