Poetry In Motion

Lo, for many years, St. Louis literary magazine River Styx has partnered with Duff's Restaurant to host monthly poetry readings, but alas, things they are a-changin'. The reading series' 38th season has moved a smidge westward to the Tavern of Fine Arts (313 Belt Avenue; 314-367-7549 or www.tavern-of-fine-arts.blogspot.com), which ought to make for a fine place for St. Louisans to continue to hear both established and up-and-coming poets share their works. The season opens with a bang at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 17, with readings from Missouri's current poet laureate, William Trowbridge from Lee's Summit, who's five months into his two-year term, and Lynnell Edwards, who hails from the Bluegrass State. Admission to the evening of poetry costs $4 to $5, and an annual subscription to the magazine, published three times a year, will set you back $20; visit www.riverstyx.org for more information about both.
