Trees are beautiful and exert such a powerful pull on our spirits and imaginations, sometimes just gazing at them from below won’t suffice. You want to climb high up into that arboreal splendor and experience a bird’s-eye view of the enveloping boughs, but you also want to avoid breaking your neck. The Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard) has a solution. Today (September 16), beginning at 9:30 a.m., the garden is offering a Canopy Climb wherein a certified tree-climbing instructor will coach you on how to safely ascend into a tree canopy on your own. The experience promises to be both aesthetically exhilarating and informative, educating climbers about forest-canopy biodiversity and conservation. The climbs are free but advance registration is required (314-577-5140 or www.mobot.org/classes), and participants must be at least eight years old. Space is limited to twelve climbers per session. Guided tree climbs will continue to be offered every Sunday at the garden through October 28, with four separate climbing sessions held each Sunday.
