With roots in the once-blooming '80s Champaign, Illinois, college-rock scene, the Jans Project is considered a neighboring local band. Featuring a mix of men from other local favorites like Turning Curious and the Love Experts, the Project is almost a supergroup of the best the region has to offer. Onstage, its sound alternates between clean, Kinks-like guitar bursts and jaunty power pop before flowing effortlessly into trippy, extended jammers. With the release of a (much praised) self-titled EP and gigs opening for contemporaries like Chuck Prophet, the Jans Project has quickly built a reputation as a band of professional rockers. Boys and Girls: With the recent addition of a duo of ladies called the Briquettes (Kate Eddens and Toby Weiss) as guest backing vocalists, everything about the band sounds just a little sweeter.
