Zammuto

7:30 p.m. Monday, October 8. The Luminary Center for the Arts, 4900 Reber Place.

Zammuto: Zebra butt enthusiast.

Some musicians' last names work well as band monikers. Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Santana and now Zammuto. Prior to his April-released, self-titled album, Nick Zammuto was best known as one half of the Books. Zammuto's new project is not far detached from his previous work. He still electronically mangles acoustic instruments, still uses the human voice as an instrument and still assembles thoughtful tracks with an obsessive-compulsive ear for detail. But the Zammuto experience is significantly more fun, devoid of the artsy distance that made his former group so enigmatic; it's hard to imagine song titles like "Zebra Butt" and "F U C-3PO" on a Books record.
