Puttin' the Barocci in Baroque

Federico Barocci lived and created his masterpieces during an interesting period of Europe's development. The Renaissance was in full swing, but the Baroque period was just then hoving in to view. Barocci's dramatic paintings and lush sense of color may have had something to do with the new fashion for paintings that were both passionately wrought and technically perfect. Federico Barocci: Renaissance Master, a massive exhibition of Barocci's work, features more than 130 of his creations, from completed paintings to sketches. The exhibit opens at the Saint Louis Art Museum in Forest Park (324-721-0072 or www.slam.org) on Sunday, October 21, and remains on display through Sunday, January 20. The museum is open every day except Monday, and admission to the exhibit is $6 to $10 but free on Friday.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 21. Continues through Jan. 20, 2012
