More About

Forget those saturnine vampires with their chiseled features and smoldering sensuality; if you want the bejeebers scared out of you, it helps to have an antagonist whose appearance is horrific. Enter Max Schreck as the vile Count Orlok in F. W. Murnau's silent vampire classic, Nosferatu. Schreck's egg-shape head, ratlike fangs and goggle-eyes are instantly startling, but it's his slithery, graceful movements that make your skin crawl. That, and his ability to stare so piercingly through a camera, a screen and 90 years of time, are what make you jump every time he flashes that gaze. The Lindenwood Film Series screens Nosferatu as a seasonal delight at 7:30 p.m. at Lindenwood University's Scheidegger Center (2300 West Clay Street; 636-949-4411 or www.lindenwood.edu/film). Admission is $5.
