More About

Lee Blessing's drama Eleemosynary is a gender-reversed Disney tale; there's an absent parent, a present grandparent and a young woman attempting to emerge from the shadows of both of the former. Artemus is the missing parent, a woman whose fractured relationship with her eccentric mother, Dorothea, drove her to abandon her own child, Echo, in order to make it as a scientist. Dorothea cares for the precocious Echo, finding it easier to love her grandchild than her own daughter. But Echo wants to love her distant mother, and wants some sort of rapprochement between her only family members before it's too late. How do you make two headstrong and hurt people feel charitable towards one another? That's the question at the heart of Eleemosynary. The Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble presents Eleemosynary at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday (November 7 through 17) at the Chapel (638 Alexander Drive; 314-827-5760 or www.slightlyoff.org). Tickets are $20.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 7. Continues through Nov. 17, 2012
