More About

It's not often you're encouraged to pick up the artwork in a gallery, but phd gallery's December exhibit, Objects Wasting Space Beautifully, is not your typical gallery show -- as if the title weren't tip off enough. This group show celebrates the tangible arts by featuring three-dimensional creations in glass, wood, textiles and metal, and all of it is designed to brighten up either your personal space or someone else's (it is the season of giving, after all). Participating artists include Carmelita Nunez, whose ceramic forms hit the sweet spot between beauty and function; Don Tran, who practices his family's traditional craft of Vietnamese silk embroidery; and Ray Morton, who reshapes found wood into household objects of surpassing beauty. Objects Wasting Space Beautifully debuts with a gala open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (December 1 and 2), at phd gallery (2300 Cherokee Street; 314-664-6644 or www.phdstl.com). The work remains on display -- and available for purchase -- through Saturday, December 29. The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday and by appointment.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 1. Continues through Dec. 29, 2012
