Time sure flies when you're drinking beer. Twenty-one years ago if you wanted a locally-made brew, you had one option. Today, you have a dozen or so choices. What changed? On December 26, 1991, Tom Schlafly and Dan Kopman started the Saint Louis Brewery and began producing Schlafly Beer, the first new brewing concern in town in decades. Every year Schlafly celebrates that momentous achievement with a party honoring the day their beer began flowing. So today from 11 a.m. to midnight, you can hoist a few -- at 1991 prices, no less -- at the Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust Street; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com). Admission is free, and several musical guests are planning to show up throughout the day. Take note: Because it's Schlafly's 21st birthday, this is only the first of a series of parties. Check out the website for details of the coming celebrations, which stretch into January.
