More About

Black History Month is almost over, but there's still time to get out there and experience the contributions black Americans have made to our culture and society. One of those singular contributions is jazz, and tonight James A. Martin lead leads the Webster University Jazz Collective in a special concert for Black History Month. Expect to hear standards such as Miles Davis' rendition of Milt Jackson's "Bags' Groove," Duke Ellington's "Hark for Duke's Trumpets" and Tower of Power's "What Is Hip?" The WJC is a 14-piece ensemble with atypical instrumentation. Two trumpeters, three saxophonists and a bassist and drummer are joined by a violinist, euphonium player and a bass trombone. Even if you're familiar with the songs, you probably haven't heard them performed in this fashion. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. at the Moore Auditorium on Webster University's campus (470 East Lockwood Avenue; 314-968-7128 or www.webster.edu). Admission is $3.
