More About

Possibly the best little crumb about 24 Hour Party People, Michael Winterbottom's cinematic delve into the history of Tony Wilson and the legendary Factory Records, might be the director's name itself. Okay, fine, the fact that it stars Steve Coogan as Wilson is pretty great, too. The fun little romp has its bumps along the road; the transformation of Joy Division into New Order, obviously, isn't all puppies and rainbows. Neither is the drug abuse and wasteful ambition of Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder. Highlights of the film include the original facade used for the Hacienda (the Factory Records night club) and a host of cameo appearances by British comedians, musicians and actors, most notably Howard Devoto of the Buzzcocks disputing some of the, ahem, creative liberties taken in the film. The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; 314-535-4660 or www.camstl.org) screens the Madchester tale as part of their What The F(ilm)? series tonight at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, so showing up a tad early may help in securing a seat with a view.
