A fiftieth anniversary is a big deal, something to be celebrated with a big bang. The St. Louis Classical Guitar Society marks its fiftieth year of presenting fantastic music from the best guitarists in the world with a suitably large blowout at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or touhill.org). The Paco Pena Flamenco Dance Company returns to town for the first time in ten years to dazzle audiences with its state-of-the-art version of traditional flamenco. The best flamenco is as much a theatrical experience -- an ever-changing ritual that evokes deep emotions in the performers and the audience -- as a musical performance, and Paco Pena is a performer nonpareil. Aided by three dancers, a percussionist, two guitarists and a singer, he's going to produce the sort of show you'll still be talking about fifty years from now. Tickets for this one-night only performance are $20 to $44.
