More About

People rarely use the term "Renaissance man" these days perhaps for a couple of reasons. One, it leaves exceptional women out of the equation, and second, there just aren't that many people out there -- of either sex -- of genius sufficient enough to warrant the accolade. Buckminster Fuller was a Renaissance man to the tee. Prodigiously gifted in multiple disciplines, he's best known to us today as a visionary of art, design, engineering, education and architecture. It seems almost unfair that any one human being could be so brilliant and far-seeing in so many separate field; but in Fuller's mind, what seemed disparate on the surface was in reality very much connected. The Atrium Gallery (4814 Washington Avenue; 314-367-1076 or www.atriumgallery.net) pays homage to this rare figure with Buckminster Fuller: Tribute. The exhibit incorporates sculpture works, prints of a number of Fuller's innovations, his global map and other elements of the singular and inspiring Bucky worldview. Tribute opens with a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 15. The exhibition remains on view through Saturday, May 11, and the gallery is open Thursday through Saturday.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: March 15. Continues through May 11, 2013
