The Early Days

Artist and Washington University professor Edward Boccia left behind a large body of work when he passed away. Part of his artistic legacy was displayed at the Saint Louis University Museum of Art earlier this year; works from Boccia's early period (1941 to 1969) are currently on display in the Sheldon's Kranzberg Gallery (3648 Washington Boulevard; 314-533-9900 or www.thesheldon.org). These 40 drawings and paintings show a young artist eager to work (some of them were made during his service in World War II), and then advance to his established style in his early middle age. Edward Boccia: Early Work is on display through Saturday, May 18; the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, and admission is free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Feb. 22. Continues through May 18, 2013
