Grimm's Fairy Tales and Alice and Wonderland appear to have commingled and time-warped into the more brazenly perverse contemporary era here in this solo exhibition by Kansas City-based artist Peregrine Honig. In prints and works on paper, porcelain-skinned, blue-eyed children of the fairy-tale ilk are lured into surreal woods not by cakes and tea but sex and high fashion. Honig (who, semi-famously, made it to the final round of the 2009 HBO reality-TV series Work of Art) has an eye for the sweetly lurid, limning fine brush work into pink-nippled nudes in sallow deer masks from whom "wolf twins" suckle, and red-cloaked nymphets who pull open their chic garments to reveal pregnant abdomens and tan-lined breasts. Several series are featured, including lithographic prints from 2006, ink- and egg-tempera paintings from 2012 and hybrid lithograph/silk screens (with ink and gouache) from this year. All relish the rabbit hole of the blank page, on which the small, wispy characters of the artist's fantasy world heedlessly drop like so many hits of acid. Through March 23 at Gallery 210, TeleCommunity Center, University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1 University Boulevard (at Natural Bridge Road); 314-516-5976 or www.umsl.edu/~gallery. Gallery hours 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tue.-Sat.
