Chess isn't merely a game, or sport rather, for the intellectual, strategic mind -- chess encompasses so much more, especially tonight at the Third Degree Glass Factory (5200 Delmar Boulevard; 314-367-4527 or www.stlglass.com). During this month's chess-focused Third Friday Party, chess becomes art -- glass artists will show off their skills by creating objets d'art, including a chess piece that will be raffled off -- and it becomes exercise, as the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis will have its humongous chessboard set up, along with speed chess games and more. And for those who are into true mind sport, you can watch as grandmaster Ben Finegold battles four opponents at one time. As if that weren't challenging enough, he will be doing so without the benefit of looking at the boards! Can you say "check" and "mate"?! The Third Friday Party runs from 6 to 10 p.m., and live music starts at 8 p.m. Admission is free, but glass arts and tapas will cost you ($25 to $35 and $2 to $8, respectively).
