We don't know about you, but just the idea of three-dimensional printing blows our minds. Seriously. Of course, we aren't rocket scientists over here (you already knew that), but printing in the third dimension is as confounding of a concept as if you told us we could go out in the rain, sans umbrella, and not get wet, or drink bourbon without getting drunk. How could such a printer even possibly work? The good folks at Craft Alliance in Grand Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-7528 or www.craftalliance.org) have all of the answers, and they demonstrate this incredible technology, live and in person, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the MakerBot Open Studio, happening during this First Friday in Grand Center. We'll try to keep our jaws from gaping open at the sight of objects going from the flat, two-dimensional design phase to the 3-D object phase, thanks to the magical, fantastical MakerBot 3-D printers. What a world! The demonstration is free, as is admission to all First Friday galleries, and note that Craft Alliance also offers affordable 3-D printing classes.
