Does St. Louis want to get noticed on the nation's cultural landscape? Bucking the trend of hemorrhaging critics might do the trick. More to the point, it would allow St. Louisans to prove to ourselves on an ongoing basis that this is a conscientious, self-sustaining art city committed to raising the level of awareness and discussion about and among the artists in our midst.

Correction published 6/6/13: The original version of this story misstated the origins and membership of the Regional Arts Commission's Major Marketing Initiative, incorrectly implying that the MMI was formed with the express purpose of promoting the Saint Louis Art Museum expansion project. Additionally, the story didn't make clear that some attendees at the museum's preview of its new wing were not from out of town. The above version reflects the corrected text.
