If ever there was a musical perfectly suited for the Muny and St. Louis' sizzling temperatures, that musical is South Pacific. Set on balmy tropical islands in the vast Pacific Ocean during World War II, South Pacific shares not one but two love stories, while also imparting a message of racial tolerance. There's military nurse Nellie who's falling for a French expat who, along with his biracial children, calls the tropics home, and then there's an American lieutenant who has a girl back home but finds himself head-over-heels for an island native. Will these two Americans living in a faraway land overcome their fears and follow their hearts? Or will Nellie wash that man right outa her hair for good? Head to the Muny in Forest Park to feel the Bali Ha'i island breeze (or the Muny's new fans!) and bask in the story and songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific. The production, which stars Laura Michelle Kelly and Ben Davis, starts at 8:15 p.m. Monday through Sunday (July 8 through 14). Tickets cost $12 to $80, and are available by calling 314-361-1900 or visiting www.muny.org.
