You Call Him Dr. Jones!

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was long regarded as the worst of the Indy trilogy, primarily because of its child-unfriendly gore and horror elements. But then George Lucas and Steven Spielberg excreted a fourth film in the series, and suddenly Temple of Doom looked pretty good in comparison. Fact check: It's always been pretty good. There's a Thuggee death cult, a crazy mine-train race through the bowels of the earth, Indy discovers warm feelings for chanteuse Willie Scott and somewhere in there they attend the worst dinner party of the 1930s. It's a solid B-plus film with a huge budget and great popcorn value. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom screens at midnight Friday and Saturday (July 5 and 6) at the Landmark Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-7271 or tickets.landmarktheatres.com) as part of the Reel Late series. Tickets are $8.
Fri., July 5; Sat., July 6, 2013
