In the exhibit terra cibus, San Francisco-based artist Caren Alpert photographs ordinary delicacies like tomatoes, coffee beans and chocolate cake with an electron microscope, revealing the withered, crusty and bubbly surfaces of these treats -- it looks kind of like something from a grade-school VHS tape on the human body. terra cibus opens Friday, September 6, at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-5100 or www.mobot.org) as part of the garden's "Foodology: Dig In" program in honor the International Year of Food. Alpert's work remains up through Friday, November 22, and the garden is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. But be sure to check it out after lunch -- because you won't be looking at your turkey sandwich the same way ever again. Admission is $3 to $8.
