The Purpose Project: Thao's Library is a play based on truth. It relates the story of Elizabeth, an American who happens upon a photo of Thao, a Vietnamese woman born with life-threatening birth defects as a result of exposure to Agent Orange. Thao has built a makeshift library for her village, but she dreams of expanding it into a grand storehouse of books. Elizabeth, who has been grieving the loss of a loved one, sees a purpose in Thao that she herself lacks, and determines to help Thao's dream come true. An unlikely and remarkably compelling friendship ensues. Mustard Seed Theatre presents Elizabeth Van-Meter's The Purpose Project: Thao's Library at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday (September 5 through 15) at Fontbonne University's Black Box Theatre (6800 Wydown Boulevard; 314-719-8060 or www.mustardseedtheatre.com). Tickets are $20 to $30.
