More About

Ten years ago this month, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis moved into its brand-new building and location, forever altering the landscape of the art community. To celebrate its first decade, CAM hosts a full year of exhibitions that address and reinterpret its physical location. The first of these is Place is the Space, a collection of site-specific installations that interact with and alter the physics and physical attributes of the building. Inigo Manglano-Ovalle installs a grid of beehive structures in one room that will address the scale and proportions of the exhibit space, while Jill Downen introduces a snaking fissure in the floor of the gallery, which will be further enhanced with gold leaf. Downen also re-appropriates a corner of the gallery with a sculpture she installed ten years ago in the same building, one that appears to melt the joined walls like so much soft wax. Place is the Space opens with a free public reception at 7 p.m. Friday, September 6. Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; 314-535-4660 or www.camstl.org). The work remains up through Sunday, December 29, and the museum is open Wednesday through Sunday.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 6. Continues through Dec. 29, 2013
