Turn Out the Lights

You know it's coming, and you can't stop yourself. That nagging feeling, that undeniable urge, creeps up your spine and whispers in the back of your brain, "The Darkness. We should go to the Darkness." Oh, you won't listen, not at first. But the deeper we get into October, the weaker you'll get. Soon you'll find yourself queuing up at St. Louis' oldest and most terrifying haunted house, the Darkness (1525 South Eighth Street; 314-631-8000 or www.scarefest.com), and you'll have no idea how you got there. Once again the house has been gutted and renovated with all new terrors and a special emphasis on zombies. The upstairs is crawling with freshly undead corpses, including a new room that appears to be jammed with thousands of the brain-hungry buggers. The Darkness is open from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, from 6:15 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 7 p.m. to midnight on Halloween. Tickets are $23 to $25.
Fridays-Sundays; Oct. 14-Nov. 2. Starts: Oct. 4. Continues through Oct. 13, 2013
