Hanna and Franklyn will soon meet (they hope) their child, which is gestating in Alison, a pregnant teenager who has agreed to let Hanna and Franklyn adopt her unborn progeny. Problems immediately arise. For starters, the expectant couple is Jewish and Alison is a fundamentalist who knows two things about Jews: They run Hollywood, and they killed her beloved Jesus. The next issue is that Alison is dropping by to meet them tonight, which is the first night of Hanukkah. Can the savvy but infertile couple hatch a plan to throw Alison off the Hebrew trail? Sure enough: They'll pretend to be Lutheran for this one night in order not to put the kibosh on their arrangement. William Missouri Downs' Kosher Lutherans is a modern farce on prejudice and belief, and how those two things divide us. HotCity Theatre presents Kosher Lutherans at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday (December 6 through 22), with 3 p.m. matinees on Saturday (December 14 and 21 only) at the Kranzberg Arts Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 314289-4063 or www.hotcitytheatre.org). Tickets are $20 to $25.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 6. Continues through Dec. 22, 2013
