Art has the power to shock us into seeing things differently, and it can manage that trick in a number of ways. Some artists use graphic imagery, some stage elaborate events that rely on the element of surprise, and some artists attack the logic centers of our brains. Bard Girls Can Fly, the new group exhibition at the White Flag Projects (4568 Manchester Avenue; 314-531-3442 or www.whiteflagprojects.org), goes for our cerebral wiring. The works of Amelie von Wulffen, Camilla Wills, Sanya Kantarovsky and Robert Longo use non-sequitur and disconnection to unbalance the viewer, forcing us to drop our guard for a moment and re-think what it is we're seeing. Bard Girls Can Fly opens with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 18. The show continues through Saturday, March 8, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Jan. 18. Continues through March 8, 2014
