Juliana Smithton is an ultra-competent woman who exudes an aura of togetherness and professional elan. She speaks well, dresses smartly -- and is smart, very smart. But terrible, unexpected things can befall any of us regardless of IQ or level of affluence. Juliana, a biophysicist turned pharmaceutical-industry publicist, is beset by the sudden onset of a mysterious illness that's genesis and exact meaning keep slipping her grasp. Her once-solid sense of reality and identity begin to unravel as her life implodes. Sharr White's play The Other Place recounts Juliana's story in a production by the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. The drama is performed Tuesday through Sunday (January 24 through February 9) in the Emerson Studio Theatre at the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road, Webster Groves; 314-968-4925 or www.repstl.org). Tickets are $49 to $63.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 24. Continues through Feb. 9, 2014
