In many ways modern dance is all about adaptation -- choreographers take their views of the world, and the subtexts therein, and envision those concepts as movement. Dancers then take that choreographed work, and develop and adapt it further in their own minds to fully express the perspective of the piece and to successfully present it to you, the audience member. You, of course, then examine that performance based on your own point of view and experiences, and utilize what you witness to adapt how you see the world -- if not forever, then at least in the moment you're watching the concert. With ...And Everything Changed, the concept of adaptation itself is explored through dance, providing an especially acute opportunity for us to consider how we change and cope, and what changes us, both in the moment and always. This piece premieres during EMERGE!, the debut concert of Karlovsky & Company Dance, a new ensemble that was founded by accomplished local choreographer Dawn Karlovsky. In addition to ...And Everything Changed, EMERGE! features works that explore the patterns of our day-to-day existence, the idea of privacy and more -- plenty of food for thought here. Catch the show at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (March 28 and 29) at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City); tickets cost $15 to $20 at www.cocastl.org.
