Gold is used to mark all of the big occasions in life. It's there in your wedding rings, it has crowned the heads of queens and empresses, and it's used to fill your teeth. It's also the suggested gift to commemorate a 50th anniversary. Little wonder that the precious metal has been selected as the theme for the 50th anniversary exhibition at Craft Alliance (6640 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-725-1177 or www.craftalliance.org). Good as Gold features a host of artists who use this versatile metal -- or its distinctive color -- in their work. Jewelry-maker Gayle Eastman sets it in eye-catching rings, Justin Teilhet coats the inside of his dazzling porcelain pieces with a golden glaze and Susan Freda spins gold wire into a daring mesh dress. Good as Gold opens with a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 4. The show remains up through Sunday, June 15, and the gallery is open every day except Monday.
Fridays, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesdays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: April 4. Continues through June 15, 2014
